The Joy of JAM: After-School Program Teaches Young People to Learn Musical Skills

The Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center is offering a Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) program to help the young people of Blount County — and the city of Townsend in particular — learn the richness and beauty of mountain music. The goal of the program is to help preserve the mountain music heritage of the region by offering low cost lessons in fiddle, banjo, guitar, and other instruments indigenous to Appalachia to small groups of students as part of an after-school program.
