Shelby County, At-Large MemberBio
Shante Avant has served on the Shelby County Board of Education since 2015. She served as Board Chairman, 2017-2019 and as Procurement Committee Chair, 2016-2017. She served on the Shelby County Education Task Force, 2018-2019; Women in Transportation Educational Task Force since 2014; Early Success Coalition, 2011-2016; and Early Childhood Development Plan Task Force, 2015-2017. She has also served on various non-education related committees, including: University of Memphis Social Work Advisory Board since 2015; Grantmakers Forum since 2015; Clean Memphis Board, 2012-2019; and New Memphis Institute Advisory Board, 2008-2015. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Master of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. She currently serves as the Deputy Director of Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis and is the former Assistant Executive Director of Girl Scouts of the Mid-South. Shante has one child, Peyton.
Wilson County, At-Large MemberBio
Larry Tomlinson first served on the Wilson County Board of Education, 1998-2004. He was elected and has served his second term since 2015. In his tenure on the Board, he has served as Board Chairman for seven years. Larry attended college at Cumberland University and is retired from Ford Motor Company and the Wilson County Government. He and his wife, Pam, have two daughters, Leslie and Jennifer, and six grandchildren.
Dickson County, At-Large MemberBio
Kirk Vandivort has served on the Dickson County Board of Education since 2008. He has served as Board Chairman since 2018 and, before that, served as Board Vice Chairman, 2008-2018. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a degree of Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Nashville School of Law. Kirk is a practicing attorney in Dickson, TN. He and his wife, Roxan, who is a teacher, have three daughters, Evy, Josie, and Maggie, and reside in Burns, Tennessee.
Hamilton County, At-Large MemberBio
Joe Wingate has served on the Hamilton County Board of Education since 2016. He has served as the Board Chairman since 2018. He has his Masters in Educational Administration and a Master of Arts degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education. He currently works as an Assistant Professor and is a former Secondary Education Teacher. Joe and his wife, Kim, have three children, Luke, Will, and Livi Kay.
